# Why doesn’t my phone react when I tap?

Hold the top of an iPhone, or the middle of the back of an Android phone, flat against the tag for a second with the screen unlocked. iPhone XS and later read tags on their own; on Android, NFC must be switched on in Settings.

- **Older iPhones (7 to X):** open Control Centre and use the NFC Tag Reader.
- **Thick or metal phone cases** can block the signal. Try without the case.
- **Still nothing?** The tag may be marked lost. Check Tags in your dashboard, or email [hello@thetap.shop](mailto:hello@thetap.shop).
