Cookies

The short version

  • If you are looking at somebody’s page, we set no cookies at all. Not one. That is why nothing pops up asking you to accept anything.
  • If you sign in, one cookie keeps you signed in. It does nothing else.
  • We run no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no tag manager, and there is nothing here to opt out of.

Why there is no banner

Most websites need your consent because they put something on your device to recognise you later. We do not, so there is nothing to ask you about. That was a deliberate design decision rather than a shortcut, and it is what the whole of our approach to counting rests on.

A page owner still sees useful numbers. They are built from what is already in the request: a source name, a two letter country code and whether it was a phone or a computer. None of it is tied to you, none of it is stored on your device, and it cannot follow you anywhere. The privacy notice sets out exactly what is recorded.

The one cookie we do set

  • A session cookie, when you sign inSet by our authentication provider so that you stay signed in as you move around your dashboard. It is strictly necessary for the service to function, which is the one category that needs no consent under the rules. Sign out and it is cleared. Never sign in and it is never set.

Things kept on your device that are not cookies

Two small things live in your browser’s own storage rather than in a cookie. Neither is ever sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes both.

  • Whether you chose light or darkSo the page does not flash the wrong one at you next time.
  • Which prompts you have dismissedThe setup checklist and the occasional notice in your dashboard, so a thing you closed stays closed.

Videos, and other people’s cookies

A page can show a YouTube, TikTok or Vimeo post. We do not load anything from them until you press play: what you see before that is our own picture of the video, served by us. That is why an embed on a Tap Shop page does not quietly hand your visit to those companies.

Press play, and the video loads from them. At that point they can set their own cookies, and their terms apply to that in the same way as if you had opened it on their site. The same is true of any link that takes you somewhere else.

Payment

Buying something takes you to Stripe, who set what they need to process the payment and to prevent fraud. That happens on their checkout, not ours.

Changes

If this ever stops being true, this page changes on the same day, and the date at the top with it. Adding anything that tracked a visitor would be a decision, not an accident, and we would say so plainly.
