Report a violation

What we will act on

The rules are in the terms. In practice the reports we can do something about are:

• Impersonation. A page pretending to be you, your business, or somebody else.
• Scams and phishing. A page built to get money or details out of people under false pretences, including a shop that does not deliver.
• Illegal content, including sexual content involving children, which we report onward as well as removing.
• Harassment of a particular person, or content inciting violence or hatred.
• Malware, or a link that leads to it.
• Copyright and trade marks. Somebody using your work, your photographs or your brand without permission.

What to include

The more of this you can give us, the faster it moves. The first two are the ones we genuinely cannot work without.

• The page addressThe full address, in the form thetap.shop/name. If it is one link or one product on the page rather than the whole page, say which.
• What is wrong with itIn your own words. You do not need to quote a rule at us or know which one it is.
• Anything that shows itA screenshot, or a link to what is being copied. For impersonation, something that shows who you actually are.
• How to reach you, if you want a replyOptional. Anonymous reports are read and acted on in the same way, but we cannot tell you the outcome or ask a follow-up question.

What happens next

We look at every report. We aim to answer within a few days, and faster than that for anything involving immediate harm or illegal content.

Depending on what we find we may leave the page alone, ask the owner to change something, remove particular content, unpublish the page, or close the account. For anything short of serious or illegal we normally tell the owner what the problem is and give them a chance to fix it, because most breaches are somebody not having thought about it.

We will not pass on your name or your email address to the person you reported. If a report turns out to be a legal claim between you and them, we may have to tell them a report was made, and we would tell you before doing that.

If it is about your own information

If a page is showing your personal details and you want them taken down, say so here and we will treat it as urgent. You can also ask us directly under data protection law: see the privacy notice.

Copyright

If you are reporting your own copyrighted work, tell us what the work is, where the original lives, exactly what on the page copies it, and confirm you are the owner or are authorised to act for them. Send it to the same address.

Reports about a purchase

If you bought a file through somebody’s shop and it was not what was described, the seller is who you have a contract with, so ask them first. Tell us as well if you think the page is breaking the rules. We can act on the page, though we cannot refund a payment that was made on the seller’s own account.
